The qualifing format for the 2008 season is remaining the same with each driver having 3 X 7 minute qualifying heats. In previous seasons 1 bonus point has been awarded to the driver who claims pole postion. The only slight change this season is that points will be awarded to the top 8 qualifiers. The pole sitter will now be awarded 10 points, 2nd will get 8, 3rd 6 and 5,4,3,2,1 for the remaining drivers that qualify in the top 8. Drivers must register at least 1 lap in the final to qualify for these points.
This only applies to the saloon class. The buggies will continue to run to the previous set of rules with only the pole sitter claiming the 1 bonus point.
The points scoring for the finals remains the same as previous seasons with the winner of the A-Final getting 100, 2nd 99, 3rd 98 and so on.

After the winter series... which really ended as a test series... all the attention is now focused on the start of the new race season.
The past few months have seen a lot of new faces joining the club with no less than 8 new members joining.
The buggy class has grown from the 'original 3' to 8 with more members set to join this class in the near future. The saloon class has also attracted new members and the bikes will continue to grow once everything is finalised for this class.
Class to watch this year has got to be the buggies with all competitors running evenly matched cars, the racing is going to fast, clean and most importantly fun! John Campbells switch to the buggies has proved a success with him getting to grips with his new car very quickly and impressing with his lap times throughout the winter. With David, Philip and Tim starting the season as the 'original 3', it is clear that will have an advantage in the early part of the season but will have to work hard for their points. The new 'young guns' have impressed during the Winter Series and look set to challenge the 'established racers' of the club from the word 'GO'!
The saloons are still set to be the main class with drivers setting out to claim both the Super National Titles. Last years champions, Mike (SN) and Tim (N), once again look set to be the main men to beat along with Robert Charters and David Adair.
The saloon class however looks set to lose 2 of the top 6 drivers from last season as both competitors will be focusing on the new buggy class for the season. Could this be a sign for things to come? We shall have to wait and see.
The bike class is really just a bit of fun and as yet there is no championship set out for them. Further information on this class will be posted in the 'What we race' section when it is provided.
This seasons championship has been reduced from 12 races to 10 with the best 7 points totals counting to the final score and final position.
A new points scoring system is also being introduced for qualifing but as yet has not been finalised.
So hopefully everyone is all set for the 1st round. Lets hope for a season of close, clean racing.

Misc: The Chairman @ Wednesday 05 March 2008 - 19:48:30
Not a bad turnout for a winter series with 5 buggies and 2 saloons making an appearance.
Mike Sloan & Tom Patterson ventured out with the saloons but only managed 2 heats as the weather did not favour the cars or the drivers. As there were only the 2 cars out no final was run and the guys used the time for some practise.
The buggies again put on a good show with new driver Conor White making his debut appearance. Out front it was a battle between veteran John Campbell & Ashley Patterson, who has only been racing the 1/5 scale buggies for a few months. It was Ashley who qualified in pole just ahead of John but there was only a few seconds between them. Stewart Agnew qualified in third just ahead of new comer Conor white who got to grips with the Craigavon circuit to qualify in forth ahead of Philip Hopper.
The Buggy final again saw a close race between Campbell & Patterson with Campbell taking the win on 27 laps with a fastest lap of 30.778. Ashley patterson finished 2nd on 25 laps with a fastest lap of 32.841. He had managed a 30.96 lap in qualifying. Conor white drove an excellent first final finishing in 3rd with 20 laps with a fastest lap of 35.947. Stewart Agnew could only manage 13 laps before retiring. He managed a fastest lap of 31.138. Philip Hopper failed to start due to technical difficulties.

A poor turnout of drivers for this round so it was decided just to use the time for free practise.

Misc: The Chairman @ Sunday 02 December 2007 - 23:57:19
The morning of the 1st round of the 2007/08 winter series started dull and a bit wet. There were 6 entries, 4 buggies and 2 bikes.
The buggies were first away with John Campbell behind the controls of a buggy for the first time. It didn't take him long the get used to the buggy and put in the fastest lap of round 1 but could only manage 13 laps. Mike Sloan drove steadily and won the first round on 14 laps. Philip Hopper also managed 13 laps but in a slower time than JC. Tim Ryans only managed 4 laps as radio problems ended his heat prematurely.
Round 2 of qualifying saw Sloan still out front with Campbell & Hopper still on 13 laps. Ryans improved slighlty but could still only manage 12 laps.
Round 3 saw the track dry slightly and Sloan took advantage of this to take pole position on 16 laps. Campbell wasn't far behind on 15 but Ryans & Hopper couldn't improve on their previous rounds.
The Buggy final saw John Campbell & Mike Sloan battle it out at the front with only inches separating them on the track. Ryans & Hopper were contesting 3rd. Campbell & Sloan had a coming together at the front which allowed Ryans to close in and eventually take over the lead. Hopper was forced to retire on lap 27. Ryans drove a steady race but Sloan & Campbell hadn't given up and continued to close in lap after lap. Another mistake by Sloan & then Campbell allowed Ryans to pull further ahead, a lead he would hold onto to eventually take the win. Campbell & Sloan battled hard for 2nd place, eventually going to Campbell with only 0.3 of a second separating them as they crossed the line.
Philip Hopper put in his fastest lap of the day with a 25.57 second on lap15. The fastest lap of the day in the buggies went to the Rookie Campbell, with a 24.28 on lap24.
1/5 Scale Bikes.
Both Davie Adair & Rob Charters used this session to get to grips with their new 1/5 Scale motor bikes. Both improved their times in the heats, Davie improving his times to put in a best qualifying time of 33.42 & Rob 35.98.
The 7 minute final saw Davie on pole ahead of Rob. Davie held on to take the win on 9 laps with Rob 1 lap behind with 8. Davie also managed to improve on this best lsp time with a 33.12 on lap 4. Rob could only manage a 38.67 but with more practice I'm sure these lap times will continue to improve.

A poor turnout for the final round of the Championship but with the minor places still up for grabs in the Super National Championship and the National Championship still wide open no one was for sitting back and taking it easy.
The battle for pole position was between Michael Sloan & Robert Charters with Charters finally taking the final pole position of the season. Sloan qualified 2nd ahead of John Campbell 3rd, 4th Tim Ryans, 5th David Adair, 6th Philip Cairns & 7th Tom Patterson. Stephen Smyth failed to qualify as a broken clutch ended his chances of silver ware in 2007.
The final got under way at 5.15pm. with Mike Sloan taking an early lead but Charters wasn't giving up and kept up the pressure. Ryans & Campbell were fighting it out for 3rd with Adair close behind. Philip Cairns was the first to drop out on lap 34 with mechanical problems. Sloan kept up the pace at the front until on lap 46 a broken ball joint forced him into retirement. A mistake by Charters allowed Campbell to briefly take the lead but Charters fought back to regain first place. Ryans was pushing hard and passed Campbell to move up into second but wouldn't settle for that. He kept up the pressure as Charter's tyres started to go off and his lap times slowed by a few seconds a lap. This proved enough and Ryans kept it steady and passed Charters with only 2 minutes left in the race. Campbell saw his chance to move up another place but couldn't catch Charters and had to settle for 3rd just behind Charters. Ryans kept it tidy to take his second win of the season and clinch the National Championship. David Adair finished a respectable 4th but it was not enough as Ryans had also done enough to take 3rd in the Super National just 1 point ahead of Adair. Tom Patterson finished in 5th securing 2nd place in the National Championship.

Not a bad turnout for Round 11 with 9 saloons & 3 buggies. Although Mike Sloan had already secured the Supernational class the lower placings were still up for grabs and theNational class was still very much open as at least 4 drivers were still in with a chance of winning. Todays racing could decide a few of the positions.
1/5 Scale Saloons.
Mike Sloan, although having already secured the Super National Championship for 2007, was not about to take it easy as he put in an excellent 20 laps in his first qualifying heat, a time that would be good enough to secure pole position for the final. Rob Charters, although going faster in the second round of heats couldn't catch Sloan and qualified in 2nd. Tim Ryans was lying 3rd after round 1 but sustained pressure from Stephen Smyth dropped Ryans to 4th moving Smyth up to 3rd. The lower positions changed throughout qualifying with John Campbell eventually qualifying 5th just ahead of David Adair in 6th. Philip Cairns couldn't improve on his time qualifying 7th ahead of Tom Patterson 8th & Jim Strain in 9th.
The A Final got under way at 5.00pm. With valuable points for the championship at stake all drivers were hoping to do their best to pick up as many points as possible. Just before the final started desaster struck Ryans when the front brake servo went down leaving him with no front breaks. A quick dash to the pits and a quick adjustment to the back brakes and he was back out on track but not hopeful of finishing high up the order.
The final underway and Sloan took an early lead with Charters hot on his tail. Ryans was finding it difficult in the middle of the pack with no front break having to break early at most of the corners allowing those behind to close in. Jim Strain was the first to drop out on lap 24 closely followed by Charters on lap 26 with what appeared to be failure of the stearing servo. Stephen Smyth stopped on lap 32 but was able to get it going again only to take an excursion across the field on lap 55 ending his days racing. Tom patterson was going steady in the middle of the field and with the retirements had moved up a couple of valuable places. John Campbell, David Adair & Philip Cairns were having a good battle in the middle of the field with very little separating the three drivers. Ryans was still struggling with the car but had started to make progress up the field but on lap 51 he rolled the car and by the time the marshall got to it had lost valuable seconds but some how still managed to stay in 2nd. Sloan was still at the front but on lap 68 the fuel pipe came away from the tank and he lost at least 5 laps making repairs. This allowed Ryans to catch up and by the time Sloan rejoined the race Ryans was in the lead but with only minutes left Sloan set about trying to regain the front position. Sloan was about a second a lap faster than Ryans and was closing in on every lap. It was all down to the final corner. Ryans took it a bit to fast grazing the tyre wall, Sloan was neater through the corner but as he put on the power the car slid allowing Ryans to cross the finish line just inches ahead. The final gap was only 2.54 seconds.
The final placing were as follows;
1st Tim Ryans
2nd Mike Sloan
3rd John Campbell
4th David Adair
5th Philip Cairns
6th Tom Patterson
7th Stephen Smyth
8th Robert Charters

The 2007 Ulster TT got under way with a good turnout of local drivers.
1/5 Scale Buggies.
Tim Ryans again proved difficult to catch as he again took pole position for the first ever running of the Buggies at the TT. Philip Hopper drove a good qualifying to take 2nd ahead of Davie Adair & Stewart Agnew.
Ryans drove a steady race and had soon lapped all the other competitors taking the win with 37 laps. Philip Hopper took an early 2nd place but was unable to hold on as Davie Adair kept up the pressure to finish 2nd on 35 laps. Hopper kept going to take 3rd. Agnew was forced to retire with gear problems with only 5 laps completed.
